This gorgeous vintage Hazel Atlas 1950's white milk glass "Tom and Jerry" holiday eggnog punch bowl and matching mug set features a red colonial carriage scene from the 1950s. It comes with four matching cups.l I think besides serving drinks in it, it would be perfect for displays at holidays, filled with ornaments, evergreens etc.
The name traces back to 1821 when British journalist Pierce Egan wrote a wildly popular book titled Life in London, or The Day and Night Scenes of Jerry Hawthorn Esq. and his Elegant Friend Corinthian Tom. The book followed the debaucherous misadventures of its two main characters, Tom and Jerry, as they caroused through the city's saloons. To pull off a clever marketing stunt for the book and its subsequent stage play, Egan added dark rum and brandy to a standard, hot eggnog recipe. He dubbed the fortified drink the "Tom and Jerry" to get people talking about his work. The cocktail became an instant sensation across Britain and America, spawning the slang phrase "Tom and Jerrying" to describe wild, drunken holiday behavior
